Mediation is about helping you work together to reach a fair solution. Because it’s collaborative rather than adversarial, you make progress much more quickly and at much lower cost than through the traditional solicitor route.

We can usually agree a fixed fee arrangement with you, when you're coming to mediation solely to discuss arrangements for children.

The mediator will therefore be able to give you an accurate overall cost of the mediation at your initial one to one assessment meeting (known as a MIAM). This will also be an opportunity to get a clearer idea of the issues to be resolved, to discuss the different options with you. The assessment meeting has a fixed fee of £120 including VAT, which includes all correspondence, telephone calls and preparation time.

To give you some idea of the potential overall cost of a mediation once you’ve both decided to proceed with mediation, a mediator may need anywhere between 2 and 6 hours’ input for a mediation about the arrangements for your children. Compare that with the typical cost of using a solicitor which can often be between £5,000 and £10,000 each and sometimes much more.
